Computer Engineering · VCU

I build robots and embedded hardware products.

I'm a Computer Engineering student at Virginia Commonwealth University working on the HyperRobotics VIP team, where I lead the perception and navigation work on an autonomous ground vehicle and the embedded systems behind a glove-controlled robotic arm. Outside of class I design my own PCBs, run a self-hosted home server, and mentor newer members through a ROS2 and Python curriculum.

Projects

Imprimis — Autonomous Ground Vehicle

07/2025 – Present
HyperRobotics VIP Program, VCU · Robotics Software Engineer & Subteam Lead
  • Built a real-time lane detection pipeline in Python and OpenCV that projects detected lane boundaries into 3D space for the robot's Nav2 costmap.
  • Wrote a custom SpeedCritic plugin for MPPI and a Controller Switcher node that swaps controllers near obstacles — a 30% speed increase while avoiding every obstacle on a simulated track.
  • Built the team's Nav2 parameter tuning stack, including unit tests, and lead the Imprimis subteam within the VIP program.

URC — Glove-Controlled Robotic Arm

07/2025 – Present
HyperRobotics VIP Program, VCU · Embedded Systems Engineer & Subteam Lead
  • Built a UDP wireless communication stack between a sensor glove and a robotic arm using micro-ROS, an ESP32, and a Raspberry Pi.
  • Implemented a 6DOF control mapping and a simulated joystick mode for compatibility with other robot platforms.
  • Added fingertip shortcuts for on-the-fly IMU recalibration and returning the arm to its home position.

Embedded Voice Recorder

12/2025 – 01/2026
Personal project · PCB, firmware, and enclosure design
Assembled voice recorder enclosure held in hand
Open enclosure showing the custom PCB, battery, and wiring
  • Designed and fabricated a voice recorder from scratch, including a custom PCB, schematic, and CAD enclosure.
  • Configured I2S on the ESP32 to capture microphone data directly, avoiding external audio ICs while keeping recordings clean.
  • Built the software that handles wireless transmission of audio files to a home NAS.

Homelab — Self-Hosted Infrastructure

06/2024 – Present
Personal project · Ongoing
Homelab dashboard showing weather, health stats, running containers, tasks, and a weekly habit tracker
  • Built and maintain a self-hosted home server (Ubuntu Server on a Dell OptiPlex Micro) running a 10+ container Docker stack.
  • Configured secure remote access from anywhere via Cloudflare Tunnel, with no exposed ports.
  • Run personal dashboards and self-hosted tools in place of several subscription services.

Experience

Fall 2026 – Present

ROS2 & Python Robotics Mentor

HyperRobotics VIP Program, VCU
  • Designing and teaching a 3-day Python and ROS2 workshop for incoming members, moving from basic variables to the fundamentals of OOP.
  • Subteam lead for the Imprimis and URC projects, coordinating project work across 20+ VIP members.
06/2026 – 08/2026

Automation Intern

GrayMatter Systems
  • Programmed PLC and SCADA logic for wastewater treatment facilities across Virginia, including Micron sites.
  • Built a warehouse inventory system for 250+ items and deployed it into a production Microsoft 365 environment.
